A 2023 Recap From Pat:

Hello track cycling enthusiast!

I want to start this off by simply saying “Thank You” to everyone who came out to ride, race and support the local track community this season in Colorado Springs.

We took some big strides this year and I wanted to point them out, so everyone understands what was accomplished and where we want to be in the near future.

As we did in 2022 the velodrome hosted two nights of community training on a weekly basis. From May through September.

What we added to those days were “Learn the Velodrome” classes. These classes were held “FREE OF CHARGE” and over 50 riders, including 15 Juniors, took part in these classes.  As a result close to 20 new riders have purchased track bicycles, taken subsequent classes and are expecting to part of the community in larger way next summer!!

The Community training time had over 600 rider days as 92 individual riders took part in training.

With the help of Robert Mayfield (Who should receive a round of applause every time he come to the track now), Maddie Godby, Claire Sanderson and of course the sponsors (BIG Thank you to Ryan Crissey!)  RACING came back to the Velodrome!   We had nights that highlighted sprinting, keirin, points races and more.  The racing was fast and furious AND SAFE!  One of things I love most about track cycling is when juniors and new riders are sharing the track in warm-up before the races with Olympians and World Champions!  And yes that happened in Colorado Springs nearly every race night!   It had been too many years since we had track racing in CO.  So again thanks to ALL OF YOU!

So What’s next?

Well tomorrow is the FINAL Community training day for 2023.  I know we had hoped to continue on for another few weeks but that wasn’t possible .  So we hope to see as many of you come out to get a little riding in and say goodbye for the season.

What will be happening during the cold months ahead you ask?

USOPC and USA Cycling are working together to ensure that the positive steps we’ve taken this season are just the beginning for a bigger and better season in 2024.
